The hp rating is supposed to be for eng. and platform. My car is a 1981 camaro with a 305 rated at 237 hp. In a nova it's 230. also different in a impala . My hp was hit several years ago by a 1984 firebird witch is a totally different car,but the novas did not .

This is correct. I recieved an email from Pat C. and he stated the same thing. My letter is on file for next year as I sent 3 weeks to late.

According to an email I received from Pat C, according to the the new wording 'Once an engine family receives a horsepower increase it is not eligible for a decrease' they mean if the NHRA HP is greater than the factory HP it will no longer be considered for a HP reduction. That about eliminates any HP reductions IMHO. Thought I saved the email, but I can't find it.

I can't speak for the wagon, but that 307 is still a very viable combination at it's current rating. The Cutlass that Chip is driving is far from trick, but still runs well. There is a lot that we could do to pick it up. That car is just not a high priority for me right now.

Now if they would just reduce the 307 in in the 1989 Pontiac wagon........

Power Factors: Stock Auto
Base Factors 207
Exception: Pontiac 213

Just damn.

Different Platform should be eligible for a reduction

I would like to see the AHFS have all runs count at all events that count towards division and national championships. Runs that won’t count, national opens, 1/8 mile runs, All Stars’, and test and tune.

If the AHFS can review and adjust power up twice a year, HP reduction should receive the same treatment. I thought the purpose of the AHFS was to adjust out of line HP above or below the line.

The accounting task will be simplified if each review starts with a clean slate. The rule of can not have a reduction if power was added in the last two review periods causes hours of extra research and clerical errors.

In my opinion what us racers don’t need is requesting HP reductions if the combination does not satisfy all the requirements for reduction. Please read and understand the rules. Do your part to help.

How does NHRA deal with the automatic HP addition of the aluminum heads a few years ago? How do they deal with the switch from factory HP to SAE HP. And to me the biggest and most unfair system that adjusted HP, and lot of those are still on the books, was the committee that Bill, aka “Rosey”, Holt was on.

I have received 29 HP for my run at Indy in a 22 lbs. class and taken a so so car and got it competitive. Not the fastest but competitive. Every .01 second
comes at a price, but for me and others it’s worth it.

Ain’t nothing like seeing the Gold Digger, Mr 413, or other great cars in the other lane racing heads up knowing your not the fastest but they can’t be late

Re: HP reduction?

NHRA needs to publish the cut off date for accepting request for HP reduction. How about 10/31/ 20XX as a cutoff date.
