On my 70 Mustang I put a bolt on one from Cobra automotive. The steering wheel is about 1/2" closer to the column, but that is in part to also using an aftermarket wheel.

+1 on adding a weld bead, and I did one that can later be ground off to put the OEM wheel back on if wanted.
