Re: Anybody had problems with p & g check
Way back at Memphis, I think 1996, we were pumped after class. We had an old 316 engine with a crappy starter and 12 volt battery. It pumped 4 too big! I was shocked because I knew we were 315 and change for cubes. I asked what we had to do and they said pull a head. No problem, we can do that. Then another tech official said to hold on. They brought out another pump. It was huge. I don't remember for sure, but I think it was checking the pro stockers Anyway, it checked three cubes small on that one. LOL.

Re: Anybody had problems with p & g check
Back when I took a few years off to race local dirt tracks, we had a tech inspector that thought he was smarter than everybody else. Anybody else ever see that? LOL
He decided that since everybody pumped an inch or so small, the temp correction used must be wrong. At bigger races they typically pumped the top 3 or 5 cars in the A feature. At a Witchita KS race, using his new calculations, all top five pumped 5 or 6 big. 360" limit. Mine finished 2nd, and was 355", (350" + .030") pumped 361". I had a fast starter, so it typically pumped 357", still legal. All five cars pulled heads, all were OK. An inaccurate temp gauge could certainly cause problems. He was not real popular over that deal. He quit using his new calcs. |
