Re: Rear brake help!!!

I went from drums to Wilwood disc with a new Moser 12 bolt in my 67 Firebird, when I put it together about 3 years ago. Disc work great. Moser package worked well. Has been a trouble free setup.
I run 15x10 and 15x8 Weld pro stars and draglites. Both 4.5" back space. As Steve said, the wheel weights need to be mounted in toward center a little. It is tight, but fits well and works well. You should not have to grind anything. All new stuff, no worries about used stuff with cracks, etc.
Good luck.

Ken,
Do you think the Wilwood disc are an advantage over the stock LS1 disc brakes that are currently on the rear except for maybe being lighter? If no real advantage I may just change wheels that would accommodate the larger rear brakes. What is your thoughts? Jason

I would do whatever is the most economical...as long as the brakes are working/holding the car there isnt much more you can ask of them.

Re: Rear brake help!!!

I would agree with Rich here. If they work well, and it is cheaper to just get a wheel that fits, I dont think there is enough weight difference to make it worth the money... with that said, I try to buy good parts, but I cant afford to chase records. A few ounces here or there are not my top worries.

One thing cost wise to keep in mind is if you use more than one set of tires. Then you need more than one set of wheels. I have Weld's with radials, Weld's with tall bias and Weld's with short bias. Depends what I am doing. 1/4 vs 1/8, conditions, etc. I can get a lot more runs out of bias, and if I am the only car in class, then no heads up worries, etc. Bias are more consistent in the TX summer heat. Especially if I am (God forbid... LOL) bracket racing.

Good luck,
Ken
