I've used M&R but switched to MACS. The MACs are really nice, ratchets are smooth, options for hook configuration, and US made. Never used Ericson as the webbing seemed to too thick and the load rating was different. At least that's what I though at the time .

Allstar-Performance "Direct Hook" ratchet straps are manufactured by M&R.

The "Direct hook" model makes "ratcheting" easier, due to fact that the "floor" or "rear" hook is bolted to the body of the ratchet (not to a strap extension)

When used with a "Flat Delta Ring-sleeved axle strap" the "Direct hook" model provides the "leverage" needed when trailer mounts are located close to or under vehicles.
"Direct hook" ratchet tie downs are a popular choice for use in "stacker trailers" with lifts.

We have used MAC's for the last 7 seasons and have not had any issue with them as far as operation or quality. I believe Summit has sales periodically on them. They are a good value in my opinion.

Mac's are the best ones I've used and I've had a lot of different ones over the years. Very high quality. Made in the USA.

Something we have had good luck with is we use adjustables on one end of the car only. We have them made locally with specific inside of hook to inside of hook lengths (usually between 20" to 35" depending) and then use some ratchet straps on the other end (which are also locally made). The don't get loose that seems to be a problem on a long trip with ratchets on each end. Haven't had a failure yet and easier to tie down.

Re: Good ratchet tie downs

I got straps rated 3330 lb. working (10k breaking) strength and associated hardware from Ratchet Straps USA, US Cargo Control, Shipper's Supplies, and Just Harris. I wanted black straps, short ratchets, and hooks with latches that mount directly to the ratchets and also have 3330 lb. working ratings, not the lighter 2000 lb. working, 6000 lb. breaking strength. I also installed D rings rated as high; the recessed ones I found were rated lighter. I wanted the working load to match the car weight for each of the four straps. In an accident, the effective car weight can easily double its actual weight.
