You should have your main starter cable that runs from the solenoid down to the starter. That goes to the main post for the starter motor but then you should also have another smaller terminal for the starter solenoid that's on the starter itself. Just take a #10 size wire with a ringed terminal end on it and jumper between the two post. Now when you hit the key and it pulls in the factory solenoid on the inner fender well it will also energize the solenoid at the starter and pull the starter in to spin the motor.
Hope that helps.

If you have a remote solenoid, the new starter also has a solenoid. The S terminal is the solenoid on the starter. Add a jumper wire from the S terminal on the starter to the terminal on the starter that the power cable is on. This will be like placing a screwdriver across the start and power terminals on a remote starter solenoid, but will be permanent.

Well thanks to 69cobra and all the others who helped an"old guy(75)" with replacing his 20 year old starter in his 418 cu in. sideoiler 64 Fairlane Thunderbolt clone. This will allow me to actually get back on the 1/4 mile with the UMTR for my 20th year of racing. Thanks again

I have been happy with my robbmc starter in an Olds with Headers by Ed, where others would not fit. Here is their FE starter:
