Firestone 7 inch slicks were maybe $89 a pair. The win money was UP THERE in comparison to today. Dave Boertman won over $13,000 at Indy in 1970. Whats that in todays money. Some guys made a living to survive running locally when times were tough. Today NHRA rapes you for every nickle and have you asked what some one made this year at a race while running a $100,000 stocker. It was fesable to race back in the day. Its carzy today unless your well off.

I remember those days and miss them lots...especially when I could afford to race 24 times a year (at two different tracks), but sadly nowadays I'm lucky to race 5 times a year, and glendora's enhancements are a big reason why. Thank GOD, IHRA is on it's way out west! :)

Can't believe that car passed tech. Did Wesley or Red tech you in. I see something illegal from the picture, can you pick it out.

Red & Wesley both teched it in. As did tech inspectors at all the national events then. First race Wesley worked, Red tore me down for the ET record at Houma, LA.
You talking about some chrome trim? They didn't worry about that then. Removal (customizing) was very common then. They didn't get anal about that until later.

Absolutely you can use the picture. Shoot me an email address and I will send the file to you. Heck, I may have the negative for the picture so you can make real reprints if you want. I'll check it out and let you know.

ed-wright@sbcglobal.net Thanks Dwight!!

Btw, Red made me put the speedo cable back in the 9 pass sta wagon I had (same body style as Jere Stahl's) before that sedan. It is also missing the vertical side trim behind the door. Never looked for the speedo cable in the sedan. Did nail me for door seals the first time out with new paint. Just had not gotten it back in. Also, arm rests in the wagon.
