Re: 1964 426-S 'Street-Wedge'
A good friend of mine who was a college roomy for a while had a '64 Dodge 330 2-dr sedan street wedge with a 4-speed and a 3.91 positrac. He was no match for my '68 Camaro 396-325hp. I beat him every which way - standing start, rolling start, corners, top end, even fuel mileage. And I beat him regularly, like very week. On top of that, the interior was cheap, the car was noisy, and not very pretty. (fugly) He sold the car.

Dwight,,,,,,,,,the 64' Dodge won't win any 'beauty pageant awards'
http://i2.squidoocdn.com/resize/squi...06654_6b_1.jpg Still remember those 426-S cars running in SS/G and SS/GA in 1969,,,,,and then again back in 1972,,,,,,they just wouldn't go away Not pretty to look at,,,,,,, |
Re: 1964 426-S 'Street-Wedge'
With open M/T headers, J.C. Penny slicks, 3.91 gears and the stock torque converter my 65 Belvedere 426-S ran low 13's in 1965. Couldnt run with the tri power GTO's but I could out run the single 4 cars even though they had a 4 speed.

"the 64' Dodge won't win any 'beauty pageant awards"
Easy there, big fella! 1964 was a great year for Mopar "B" bodies...compared to 1963 they looked pretty good. The worst are the '62s--the Mr Potatohead of cars! Chris Barnes Wagons of Steel Stock 6621 |
Re: 1964 426-S 'Street-Wedge'
Chris,
I didn't say the 64' Dodge was ugly,,,,,,,,,just that it wouldn't win any 'beauty pageants',,,,,,,, Now if we're talking about ugly,,,,,,, the 1961 Plymouth. So ugly,,,,,,,you have to tie a 'pork chop' to the tire, just to get the dog to pee on it...... http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...ac1mPlbSDRfWFw |
Re: 1964 426-S 'Street-Wedge'
I took a ride in a brand new '64 Plymouth 426 S/4 speed convertible with one of my friends from auto shop. I didn't have a license yet....He did and was a notorious nutcase.....especially behind the wheel......The car was owned by a phys ed teacher and general all around "coolguy" and weight lifter.....(a pretty big dude). The car was black with red interior...and pretty nice....
Those cars may not have been real fast but it was good enough to get us real sideways and burn a heck of a lot of rubber on that little "test ride" I was hanging on for dear life......impressed the heck out of me at the tender age of about 16 or 17 We generally got a little crazy in auto shop and the same friend managed to blow the rear on a stick six Valiant that belonged to another shop teacher.....He was a squirrel.....but fun.... |
