The Lingenfelter Green Monster was the epitome of Super Stock cool. He was one of the first to exploit the low compression smog motors with some pretty advanced camshaft designs. Incredible car, incredibly talented guy.

This car is still being campaigned to this day, by Russ Linke from Old Bridge NJ as a SS/JA, and still a bad-*** car.

Mr. Armstrongs machine is somewhat quick. 8.77 in bad air. What could it run in super air if he was to turn it loose without getting hit over the head by NHRA?????? --- and yes there are lots of great Vettes from yesteryear to present day.

I was working the staging lanes at the 1974 Gatornationals when Bernie was top dog in his class. He was the first in his class to pull down the lane for class runoffs and none of the Hemis wanted to be the next in line. Back in those days when we saw a car nearing the staging lanes, that car was next to go down the lane, and there was seldom anyone lagging back because we did shut the lanes off after a given time.

After the Hemis were all lined up behind Bernie, the drivers met in a group at the rear of the lanes and started walking down toward Bernie's car at the front of the lane. Bernie saw them coming and closed his hood. He met them at the rear of his car and told them to stay away from his car or he would "set the record down so far that there would not be a Hemi that could touch it." Needless to say the guys all went back to there cars and left Bernie alone.
