Re: Any machinists set valves on an DOHC motor?
Art,
To convert the MM feeler gauges to standard just multiply by .03937. 1mm x .03937= .03937 .5mm x .03937= .01968 |

I'd cut the adjuster boss down to where you can get a wrench on the adjuster in there real easy or if this is a super stock motor I'd weld the adjuster to the rocker and make the pad that the rocker sits on stationary. (as long as there's room for cam/cams |
Re: Any machinists set valves on an DOHC motor?
Art,
What is the actual Rocker Ratio? You know,measured... Measure the lobe lift and then the valve lift @ "0" lash. Then divide the required lash, at the valve tip, by the RR and set at the roller. You do realize with a set up like that you can alter the RR with tip length of the valve. It can also move the cam timing around a little. |
Re: Any machinists set valves on an DOHC motor?
Get a pair(1 Int and 1 ex) set at the valve to whatever lash you want and then see what it is between the cam and the roller. A feeler gauge should work ......Once you know the number that is at the cam/roller with the proper lash at the valve tip..... set them all at the cam/roller contact area. They do make very thin open end wrenches once know as tappet wrenches that might work on the adjusters...
I agree that motorcycle engine mechanics would have tools to do this....My son has been around motorcycles all his life...... I also think Terry's idea of cutting the bosses down is a very good one......Not real hard to do it either..... |
Re: Any machinists set valves on an DOHC motor?
I'm thinking of cutting the bosses down some Fabricating a wrench that I can use on there. Possibly drilling holes for set screws to stop the lifter from turning.
But this will probably be for next season. |
Re: Any machinists set valves on an DOHC motor?
Never mind . It looks like you don't have any room to close up the adjuster height any.
Yep. Machine the bosses down when you get the head off. |

Rich is correct about the tappet wrenches, Sears sells them. They are about .250 thick. Rich |
