What is everyone's take on this? The Rocker Arms section was updated Jan. 19th, 2012 and says:

"OEM or aftermarket rocker arms permitted. Needle/roller bearing pivots and roller tips are permitted for all applications. Must remain same design as original application (ie: stud mount must retain stud mount, pedestal type must retain pedestal type and shaft type must retain shaft type. Stud girdles prohibited) Stamp steel OEM and OEM-type rocker arms may be reinforced."

also under the cylinder heads section it says:

"The following are permitted: polylocks, jam nuts, screw-in larger diameter rocker studs, or pinned studs..."

I'm finishing up a stocker 5.0 Mustang. Using stock rockers, not rollers, would you say that screw-in studs are legal? I'm getting conflicting feedback on this.

I ask this same question to Pat at Phoenix National earlier this year. He said it was up to Bruce to make this call. I have a set in the works with screw in studs but have stopped until I find some more info just have not sent any email to NHRA lately, I need to do this but the start of race season interfered. Here what I have done since then order ford part# M-6564-B351C from Paul at RACEMART( this is the best price on them) this is an adjustable roller rocker which helped out in time to adjust your valves. I have a set of stock after market rockers I think they are comp cams stuff that is better material, that is now obselete for me.

For me the issue is making valve adjustments. Not messing with shims makes the job a lot easier, but that being said, I still have the stock ones at this point.

NHRA allowed the use of guide plates and studs prior to the new roller rocker rule.

They have also allowed the stud and guide plate kit from Crane Cams since the 1990's not only on the 351-C but also the SBF's. Their kit consists of studs, nuts and a Nylon material style guide plate.

Look at Rory's previous message; he runs a fully adjustable rocker arm system like many others.

If you select the proper guide plate, stud and pushrod, you do not need to machine the pad to install guide plates.

Screw in studs are legal if they screw into the original 5/16" course thread holes in the pedastal. I assume that is not the answer you were looking for. I confronted Bruce with this topic a couple years ago.

So, under this assumption, the Chevy Big Blocks would be illegal by using the 9/16" studs???
