I also like Tracy's suggestion to minimize "one shot wonders".

What defines a "one shot wonder"?

If the "Tournament of Champions" were finished to completion,my pick would have been Scotty Richardson.

If he had won, would he be known as a "one shot wonder"?

By "one shot wonder" I mean a racer who goes to one "qualifying" race all year, basically not supporting the series at all otherwise, winning, then potentially winning the World Championship. It doesn't matter if its a hitter, veteran or beginner. I think that's the biggest complaint. But on the other hand, this format does provide opportunities to those who can't afford to travel enough under the old format. Just having some type of minimum attendance requirement, something between the current "one" and the old div. and nat. minimums, might be better. (Just my opinion.)

I have to agree here. A racer who wins less than a ten rounds whould not be World Champ. I do not know how many rounds there is at the TOC, but there were 3 rounds in Tulsa in Stock and the winner qualifyed. I do not remember who won, but I would not think there would be more than 7 rounds in the TOC so *if* the winner was this guy thats all he would have to win. Thats not right I don't care how good the guy is. I can understand the folks wanting to make it more exciting, but world champs should be more than that.

btw Mike Cotton was the winner with 6 cars there in stock. I know the guy is a great driver and has a great car, but less then a dozen rounds does not deserve a world championship.

" If " , ,just " if" Scotty was to win he would be a one shot wonder because in records shown he was the only qualifier that only went to only one race and qualified and never went again til the TOC final race,.Bet ya'll didn't know that did you ? I agree there should be a minimum participent requirments to be in the TOC. I don't make the rules either ,just try to enforce them.

Sid,
Have you been under a Rock the last year.DDUUUHHHH.

At first I did'nt like the new format, but now I love it. How awesome would it be to be crowned WORLD CHAMP after defeating the top 20 or so drivers in a head to head 1 race shootout.
I do think there needs to be a minimum number of races participated in to qualify.

I would'nt call Scotty a one hit wonder. Was'nt he T/D world champ last year?

What a Joke

Danny are you saying that it's possible that Scotty Richardson might end up being the 2009 IHRA World Champion and he only raced at one IHRA event the whole season ???

Yep ,except for the sportsnational on friday at the TOC race in which he was running stock and could have possibly won that and qualified for a stock TOC that weekend.

If a guy from Minnesota were to attend the Byron,IL Sportsnationals and win it in his only race of the year,he then could be World Champ by winning the Tournament. If he only races twice a year and wins both races,I think he did pretty good.Maybe not a World Champ to some, but those are the current rules.

I do think this was all explained in the beginning of 2009 before the season started ? I agree with Chip and others that it gave others who couldn't afford to attend 6-8 races a chance to win... Do you think NHRA
and Nascar shootout's had anything to do with IHRA using it... Yes, and it has made things very interesting .... I think it will get even better this year if Scotty Wins.... Why should you have to travel thousands of miles if you don't have too... I do think they should look at a min. of 2/3 races for the year going forward........... Time will tell, but those are the RULES ...

Merry Xmas & Happy New Year to all....
