Re: Oddball Muscle Cars
blkjack,
I think the 60' Chrysler 300-F was one of the 'specials'. Called 'The Bankers Hot Rod'. A 413/400HP Wedge. A short-lived magazine 'Performance Cars' got one back in 65'/66', out of a junk-yard. Stripped it down, left on only the front fenders, hood, grille and bumper. No windshield, roof, doors, quarters or trunk deck. Can't remember what it turned, but the 'picture was worth a thousand words'!! Paul... |
Re: Oddball Muscle Cars
I seem to remember that the Mopar ACTION Imperial ended up with just enough parts left on the car (engine and drivertain, frame, wheels and tires and a seat...) to remain functional for a quarter-mile pass, and ended up running some mid-12-second e.t.'s at about 2,000 pounds... No roll bar... LOL!!! Street tires and lots of wheelspin... :)

Re: Oddball Muscle Cars
Rory,
I ran against a 72' 455 in 1973 in NED1, yes in SS/NA. I know it wasn't an original 455 W-30 Vista Cruiser, it was a converted one. I was at a loss, my 67' 273/235HP Cuda vs. a 'Monster-cubed Wagon'. Had him out of the hole and a lead 3/4 down the track. Then the 800CFM Quadra-Jet kicked in, and I nearly got sucked in from the vacuum entering the carb. The glass domed-roof car ran 12.50's. Paul |

The imperial I loved too, my Grandfather got pulled over at 3 am on our Rt 21 doing 140mph, I have the "warning" somewhere , he got pulled over and the cop asked "What the Hell do you think youre doing ?!?!" His answer, seeing how fast my new car will go......he was let off with a warning that got tucked in the owners manual...lol...times are different |
Re: Oddball Muscle Cars
Drooze,
I bet your 'Grandfather', while cruising at 140+, was smoking a 'Tiparillo', sipping some 'B & B', and listening to Peggy Lee!!! Probably told the Cop some 'choice words' also. You know us 'Italians' also use the trunk for 'special transportation' also;). Dennis, 'Lubik Oldsmobile' out of central New Jersey had a 'killer wagon'. I can't for the life of me remember who I ran against, but I still recall seeing that roof mounted rear-window deflector, which kept the tail-gate window 'nice and clean' through the traps. Late 60's and early 70's drag racing,, 'man do I miss it'. Paul |

My Moms dad my "Grandfather Snowball" was as Starched, Dry, Stern, Reserved English as you could get.....He was always so very proud of his Imperials from what my mom said, for a "working man" to Own a new one every couple years and he never ever used credit that was his pride, 10k for a car in 70 is amazing to me. Thats what started my Imperial love affair, my last a 64 Convertible with 7000 Original miles, I regret selling it. |
Re: Oddball Muscle Cars
Just catching up on this thread, back on page 5, Ed F details the Gremlin 401, which got me "remembering".....do I recall correctly that when AMC & Wally Booth put the Pro Stock Gremlins in a wind tunnel, the Gremlin was better areodynamically backwards?
I think they switched to Hornets after that. At least that is what I think I remember! Anyone? |
