Re: Oddball Muscle Cars
The Gran Prix was replaced by a 1970 Monte Carlo SS454 auto. Also trashed. Both were crushed in the early 80s.

Re: Oddball Muscle Cars
Bret,
Now that would be a 'copulation'.. F-W-D, 273/180HP in a 67'Marlin.. By the way, AMC called the 343/280HP in the 67' Marlin the 'Typhoon'.. Oh, those AMC marketing specialists,,,'brilliant'. 1970, 'gentlemans performance car', 1970 Pontiac Grand Prix SSJ, a 'Hurst' prepped car. 455/370HP H.O., 4-speed with 3.70 posi. .White, with gold trim, and gold 'honeycomb' wheels. . Ran H/Stock in 1970,, and could run 15.50's out-of-the-box. Another neat GM 'boat'. Paul |
Re: Oddball Muscle Cars
Ok if we're talking big boat muscle. 1970-71 Linclon Mark III 460ci 365 hp 500 ft. To small of a carb and they weighted 4600 lbs. But they would burn a set of H78-15's until your foot got tired.

Re: Oddball Muscle Cars
Uh oh. Here comes Pascoe with the obscure Lincoln trivia. At least he knows who had history's quickest Lincoln-powered doorslammer!
Paul, I didn't remember anything about the "Typhoon". That's pretty cool. |
Re: Oddball Muscle Cars
Bret, I always thought that the 67' Marlin 3+3, with the 'Typhoon' high compression 343/280HP was cool marketing.. 4-speed and dual exhausts.
I will defer, the Lincoln Mark IV was probably the 'King of Steel'.. When I was a parking attendant at an exclusive country club in Westchester County, NY back in 73', we had a name for those cars.."_ _ _ Canoe".. I hope no ones feelings are hurt.. Paul |
Re: Oddball Muscle Cars
Around St. Louis, a Lincoln was known as a "Pascoe Canoe".
|
Re: Oddball Muscle Cars
Bret,
That 'Pascoe Canoe' was even a legend in New York.. Unfortunately, the Mark III 'Champion of the Boats' crown is short-lived. I have to go with the 1970 Chrysler Imperial, with the 'TNT' 440/375HP. A massive piece of steel at 4801 lbs. Called by Chrysler 'simplified, but elegant'. Could be purchased with a 3.55 Sure-Grip for an additional $56.80. Ran the quarter in 16.6. NOT BAD!! Talk about weight, how about length,, 229.5" (19 feet). If that car was in a PORN MOVIE,,it would be called JOHNNY STUD! Paul,, |
Re: Oddball Muscle Cars
This months hemmings: 1967 Marlin, rebuilt 343, 4 speed, front disc brakes, rebuilt suspension, no rust, original interior, fair paint, $ 10,000.00, car is in GA.
A bargain at any price for the discerning collector............. Bret ? |

Car would hum along at 130+ like you were floating along.....no effort. And it would get up and move (especially NOT from a dead stop :) The funny thing is on the higway it got decent mileage, in the city I swear you could see the gas gauge move.... HotRod I think did a spread on a 64(5) where they continued to strip it down until they had only a bare frame running down the track. |
