This just reminded me of a funny (and true!) story! I was at my local track running S/P before delay boxes were legal in Div.1 and I had to race a guy that had a box in his car. I went over to the head Techman and told him that "this guy had a box in his car"! He told me that he knew about it and the guy promised that he wouldn't use it. Well this Techman has a couple of very pretty young daughters so I said to him "put me in a closet with your daughters and I promise I won't touch them"! The Techman made the guy take the box out before he ran me.
I guess that I made my point.

Dale

It wont happen in NHRA or IHRA. They would lose to many entry fees from the also rans and the odd classes. Top Stock was the ONLY catagory that I ever saw that would bring the fans to their feet and cheer the racers and have all of the Pros from Top Fool, Pro stock teams and the Ha Ha car racers run to the fence to watch eliminations and qualifying. I think it would be a great show as the early days of Pro stock (1970 to the mid 70's) was but Im afraid the time has passed us by. The associations are interested in every dollar that they can get for entry, liscense fees, memberships, etc. Money is what makes the wheel turn. Where would the FWD, lower classed cars, etc. have to race? Would tech be tough ? I doubt it. It happened almost 10 years ago but then politics stepped in and manufacture interfearence. I would like to see it but I doubt it will ever happen except on a local level.

Also, according to my Nitro Joe's Stats which arrived yesterday, there were 1550 total cars (Just in Stock Eliminator alone) that made passes at NHRA events last year.

There must be something that is interesting about this class for that many drivers to compete.

What is the big problem?

1550? There's 51 classes in Stock. So that's about 30 cars per class on average. There's 7 NHRA regions, so that's about 4 cars in any given class per region. Obviously some classes attract more cars, some less. There's many combos with one or zero cars at any given race.

So one one hand, yes - what is inherently wrong with racing that attracts 1550 cars? On the other hand, what is good about racing that attracts 2 people to a particular combo in a country of 300,000,000 people?

The problem is that it is still just a bracket race 99% of the time.

And my quote about "its only Dial in anyway" was spoken to me by a highly respected TECH man in the lanes at a Div race. As long as the racing is dial in as a magority of the meets the rules will be poorly followed ( it doesnt hurt to cheat because you dial in anyway)
I have had guys tell me they ran a Bracket motor for points meets so they didnt hurt the "good one" for nationals, or it was being rebuilt, "I have to dial in anyway"
Terry is correct , Top/Stk and TOP/SS could be a winner again now factory money is producing cars, racers are smelling Blood of a fast new car. If only NHRA would more correctly monitor the factoring and construction to keep the competition alive not just DOMINANT.
Dial in is fun but there are racers who appreciate accomplishment of WINNING a class populated by strong racers, equal cars and fair rules.. THAT IS CLASS RACING
SS/AH is an example of the idea but it has turned into a Pro class due to rule "evolution" rather than rule "Enforcement"

the 1550 is the number for each class that was ran in 2009. One driver and car could of ran 4 classes in 2009 so it would have him or her counted 4 times in there. I do this just to let people know how many different cars ran each class throughout the year.
Hope this will make you understand the 1550 number.

Also, some times the same car may have multiple drivers over the course of a year. Father, son, daughter, cousin, friend, etc may "take turns" at different points or Nat`l events. "Hired Guns" may be replaced during the season as well.
