Re: An Idiots Guide to Super Class Racing
I'll save others some time. Hey Jason, Bill Hanes builds some pretty stout "big" small blocks. I think his Vette was a 454?

Re: An Idiots Guide to Super Class Racing
Jeff,
Is your number 643 or 6143 (or something else I can't quite make out in the picture)? Mine is 643! I inherited the number from Don Cliver, who I bought my original rolling chassis from. We're practically neighbors (I live in Happy Valley). I think I was just getting out of the divisional/national scene when you were getting going in it (I remember the name and car). I ran the "Student Driver" Vega in S/G. Jason, IIRC, Jeff is the poster child for high mph, running around 150 mph in S/ST (and winning lots of races doing it). Regards, |
Re: An Idiots Guide to Super Class Racing
Yawn. Next you're going to tell me that his dad broke a limb right before the last race, and that he's such an outlaw that he got banned from his home track.
Wow. I'm impressed. |

Re: An Idiots Guide to Super Class Racing
I still think that for the spectator we just need to do away with the timer thats all. But that will never happen because there is to many engine builders that would no longer be building 1000 hp engines that support nhra, nobody would need them. It would be heads up racing again where it started and got out of hand. Thats just what i think and always have. The throttle stops would still work with no problems just no mph
thanks...........clarence woodham 2783s/st 2783s/g 2783stk AND BY THE WAY I HAVE A TIMER |
Re: An Idiots Guide to Super Class Racing
I posted a poll in this forum, asking what you would do if NHRA banned timers in .90 racing. I'll be curious to see what the results are.

Re: An Idiots Guide to Super Class Racing
Everyone keeps talking about changing the class to make it easier for the spectator to understand. What ever happened to the class being for the racer? I don't know about you, but I can't see much of the spectator's $10 entry fee going much farther than into the track owners' pocket. At least I know that a percentage of my entry fee will be paid back to the racers. And the racer is who the classes should satisfy.
If the number of spectators is dwindling, it's not because they can't understand the .90 classes. It's because they've finally realized that drag racing is relatively inexpensive and they're on the other side of the staging lanes now racing their own cars. I've always said that in stock car racing there are a bunch of people in the stands watching a few cars on the track. In drag racing, there's a few people in the stands watching a bunch of cars race. |
Re: An Idiots Guide to Super Class Racing
I,m just glad I can race, period. Hate to be the kid looking thru the window.

Re: An Idiots Guide to Super Class Racing
This may not be politically correct, but I couldn't care less about the spectator in the stands understanding what it takes to go .900 and win. Comp is the same way. When you've spent the last 2 hours watching the pros, a bunch of 9 second dragsters doesn't exactly hold the average spectator's attention. There are too many super class racers for NHRA to just abandon them, although it wouldn't surprise me if they did. I would rather see TD be a 6.80 to 7.20 open bracket race which gets rid of the throttle stops (ban them in the class) and still have fast enough cars handicapped somewhat closely together. I think a lot of .90 racers would be interested in that format. Just my .02 cents.
